Hawk Pro – Vidisco’s portable X-ray system with AI Optical Overlay – Identifies the Exact Battery Location
An X-ray image tells you what’s inside. In EOD work, that’s essential – but it’s only half the answer. The harder half is knowing where, on the physical surface in front of you, each of those components actually sits.
That’s the question Vidisco’s Optical Overlay, built into Hawk Pro, was designed to answer. And the way it answers it is something that, until recently, only an experienced technician’s brain could do.
Two Images vs. One Truth
Most portable X-ray systems display the X-ray image. Some add an optical photo next to it. Two panels, side by side. Useful – but the mental work of connecting one image to the other still falls on the operator.
This training scenario makes the problem visible. The doll contains concealed electronics. In side-by-side mode, you can see everything- but you’re still mentally projecting the X-ray components onto the physical object. Under pressure, in a real scenario, that mental step is where errors happen and time gets lost.

When the System Thinks Spatially So You Don’t Have To
Switch to Overlay mode, and the dynamic shifts entirely.
Hawk Pro’s patented Optical Overlay fuses the X-ray and optical images in real time- automatically aligning them so each internal component appears precisely where it physically sits inside the object. Not approximated. Not side by side. Exactly there, at adjustable opacity, on the surface you’re looking at.
What makes this genuinely hard- and genuinely useful- is the alignment problem underneath it. The X-ray source, the flat-panel imager, and the optical camera each see the same object differently. Getting those three perspectives to agree, automatically, in real time, to a level of accuracy you can act on: that’s the engineering work that earned Vidisco the patent.
The operator used to do this spatial reconciliation in their head. Now the system does it on screen, before anyone goes downrange.
The result isn’t just a better picture. It’s a different kind of decision-making — faster, because the spatial question is already answered, and more precise, because placement is based on what you see rather than what you calculate.
In the Field
Units working with Hawk Pro report that the overlay removes the back-and-forth of comparing two separate images under pressure — and that less experienced technicians can make spatial assessments that previously required significantly more time or a senior operator alongside them.
Hawk Pro runs on Vidisco’s X-ray platform- ruggedized, battery-powered, deployed with EOD and security forces globally. The Optical Overlay works in real time, in the field, in the conditions that actual operations produce.
X-rays have always shown what’s hidden. Hawk Pro now shows exactly where it lives.
