DRUG INTERDICTION OPERATION & X-RAYS
During an inspection of a vehicle for drugs or drug related items, LEOs will call for the support of a K9 unit to detect the presence of drugs in a vehicle. If detected, the LEO now has authority to physically inspect vehicle to identify the exact location of the drugs. This often requires the LEO to basically disassemble the interior of a vehicle to retrieve the drugs in question.
ASSESSING UXOs USING DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY
Unexploded ordnance (UXO) are explosive weapons such as bombs, shells, ammunition and mines that failed to explode and still pose a risk of detonation. UXOs aren't just a result of live fire training — in fact, many are a remnant of past conflicts including world wars. When UXOs are found, it's critical to quickly assess the threat and to understand if the device can be safely removed or has to be neutralized in a controlled explosion.
IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE (IED) DETECTION
As IEDs can be composed of a huge range of different components, and their appearance is often well concealed, it is much harder for them to be identified by sight. Vidisco’s portable X-ray solutions allow a bomb squad to detect all three types of IED, regardless of how the device is made.
IED X-RAY DETECTION HELPS FIGHT BACK
In the past, the ability to pull out an entire portable X-Ray system from a small bag was considered a fantasy, but today due to developments in technology this dream has finally become a reality. A few years ago a standard portable X-Ray system weighed over 40kg, today the lightest Vidisco’s system weighs less than 6kg without compromising on the system’s penetration capability and resolution. These latest technology developments along with the changes in terror doctrine have created a new need for light and compact portable X-Ray systems.
AIRCRAFT INDUSTRIES ׂUSING NDT INSPECTION
Aerospace is an industry that has experienced great growth in recent decades. NDT in aerospace has a special driver of its own due to the high levels of human traffic involved; the crash of a civil or military airliner has the ability to cause loss of life reaching catastrophic proportions. Therefore, strict NDT specifications have been set to detect very small cracks and defects in engine turbo discs, blades and airframe structures, in both production and ongoing maintenance.
ORGANIC OR INORGANIC?
The Security field has brought several of its substantial DR achievements to the NDT field including rapid setup, portability, excellent image quality, high POD, environmental friendliness and immediate imaging. One outstanding example is the current use of Dual Energy in NDT. Dual Energy in its portable form enables taking X-ray images at various energy levels that help differentiate between is organic or inorganic materials.
